Team Profile

Formula Student Queen's University Belfast
The team consisted of 7 final year students and 14 third year students.

One of the main objectives of the team this year was to develop a new composite system for the construction of the chassis. A resin infusion system was developed in house for the construction of the moulds for the chassis. An out of autoclave composite system has been utilized for the manufacture of the chassis itself removing the need for autoclave time. These systems have allowed us to become self sufficient in the construction of our composite chassis. The team has also designed new unsprung mass systems with the addidtion of centre locking wheel nuts. The design of all components was completed prior to december to allow for sufficient time for manufacture within the university. Testing on the 2011 car has been on-going throughout the year to improve handling, car set-up and reliability. Alongside this dynamometer testing has been performed throughout the year to optimise the performance of the Yamaha R6 engine. The team has also developed a custom made exhaust silencer and bespoke composite intake manifold.
The team patron is Eddie Irvine.
